Simulated Divided Light Grids
Recently, NEWPRO replaced the windows of the home seen in the pictures below. We used what is called simulated divided light (or SDL) grids on the windows. This type of grid is also known as an external grid.
A simulated divided light, by definition, is a window that has the appearance of a number of smaller panes of glass separated by muntins (also called a windowpane divider), but actually is a larger glazing unit with the muntins placed between or on the surfaces of the glass layers. The typical grid on many homes’ windows is a contour internal grid. With the simulated divided light grid, the grids on the windows are on the outside of the glass and are therefore able to be seen better.
